Grant & Fishing in Island Park

Well, I thought that you may want to see what Grandpa Heileson started with my dad. A LOVE for fishing! My dad, Grant, got to spend some time in Island Park a week ago and got spoiled a bit by his son-in-law, Pat Bennett.

Pat took the picture and was holding the fish dad caught. But that is dad alright, having a GREAT time! **Note the stylish hat**

Who knows the whole story?

We have a relative, through Tressie, that came across the plains with the Willey or Martin handcarts companies by the name of Catherine Nightingale. The story is that she was lost while collecting fire wood and a snow storm hit hard and she was found by the fringe of her red shawl. This is her headstone and as you can see, it has a shawl carved in the headstone. (That is a very summed up version of what I know.) If there is anyone who knows the full story, would you please email me at lisastorey1@comcast.net and I will post it here or better yet, leave it as a comment here so that we can all read it. This is the front of the tombstone. It has the name Henry Oswald on it. From what I have found out, her husband was buried in St. George Utah so I am wondering if this is her son.

This is her information on the back of the tombstone. There are questions as to when she married her husband and I know that he had another wife, but when did he marry the other wife, before or after leaving England?

Here are Tressie's parents and they are located in the same cemetery as Catherine Nightingale Barlow. It just brought back a ton of memories of Great-Grandma Young when I saw this. I remember Grandma Tressie taking care of her and that she was a very small woman with a contagious smile and if memory serves me right, she was strict. She passed away when I was 10 years old.

Reflections of Christ Video

This was sent to me from a dear friend and I know that you will all enjoy it. Our grandparents had such a love for our Saviour and the Gospel and I am sure they would love this as well. Turn up the sound as the music is as wonderful as the pictures and truly touches the soul. Enjoy!

Here is the explanation:

For many years the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had exhibits on the temple grounds during the Easter season. This year, there was also a 'Reflections of Christ' photography exhibit in the Visitor's Center. The photographer was given permission to photograph Pageant cast members for the exhibit. They traveled to various locations in Arizona that the photographer felt looked like the places in Israel where the events took place and recreated the scenes. The photographer worked with a few other individuals to put together a 5 minute slideshow which includes every image from the exhibit set to the hymn 'Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.' Just remember when you're watching the video that the photographs are real, they aren't paintings. Incredible! Remember to maximize the video so you can see it full screen. You can expand the screen to fit your entire computer screen for a better view by clicking on the lower right hand square icon (next to the volume).

2008 Heileson Family Reunion

Well, where to begin? We got together for the Heileson Family Reunion and although we were small in numbers, we were big in spirit and love for each other. It was so good to see all that came. There has been some discussion about due to the size of every one's families, perhaps we should stop having the family reunions. There are valid points for both but after talking about it, it was decided that we would continue every other year reunions and we will hold them on the third Saturday of every July. As long as there are still children of James and Tressie living, we will do this as this is the only time that many of us see each other at all. It is to easy to lose track of each other and so I said that I would do a blog for the family. I hope that you like it and understand that it is "under construction" so be patient with me. Below are some of the pictures that I took and if any of you would like to add some of the ones you took, we will get them on.

I could honestly feel the spirit of my grandparents there today as I am positive that they are please and blessed with their posterity!

P.S. I know that some of explanations of who people are may be silly to some, but I am hoping that everyone will look on this blog and there are getting to be so many of us that it is hard to know who everyone is and who the may belong to. ;)

Grant Milton Heileson, the oldest child and only son and currently the family patriarch for the Heileson clan. (I love you dad!)
Carma Farley, such a beautiful woman as ALL of my aunt's are, and looking more and more like Grandma Heileson.


I would like to say that I felt strongly that we need to keep this tradition alive. I know that it will not be easy, and that not everyone will be able to attend, but we need to keep that link between us alive and strong. I am proud and honored that my Heavenly Father chose to send me to such a wonderful family with such a rich history. Let's keep the stories of our dear grandparents alive and let them know of our love and respect by continuing to care and nurture the ties that we have. I love you all and I look forward to seeing you again.
